What a start to the New Year !

As I am sure you all followed on the website, we had an amazing time in Holland. Everything went well and from the posts and photos put up by the boys, you can really tell we had the time of our lives. What I wanted to add to all that has been written is that all the Exiles players were impeccably behaved, listened to our instructions and warnings and were no trouble whatsoever.

On our return to Malta, we finalised the agreement which enabled us to confirm the return of John Paris to the club which launched him onto the waterpolo world, quite literally. I must say that this has been one of my personal ambitions for quite a long time. I always thought that it would be fitting for John to return to Exiles for the final years of his career and fortunately we were on the same wavelength. It makes me very proud to note that in recent years Exiles have been linked with arguably the four outstanding waterpolo personalities of the last twenty years – Dirk Dowling, Kurt Dowling, Marco Manara and John Paris. It shows that our club is perceived as professional and serious. And once I’ve mentioned Marco Manara, may I take this opportunity to wish our former senior coach the best of luck on his new appointment as senior coach of Sliema ASC. I know what this means to him.

Looking ahead, we are working to conclude the choice of foreign player. I cannot reveal any more yet but will only add that this will be a top International player who we intend also to utilise in the coaching set up particularly with the younger children. Moreover we are initialising preparations for the Summer months. We will be spending a considerable amount of money to carry out some much needed refurbishment works in the forthcoming weeks. We have also decided to take over the bar and restaurant facilities ourselves so the preparation work in this respect is also taking up a considerable amount of our time.

Finally may I strongly urge all members to keep in touch with us via the excellent website and, wherever possible attend our activities the next of which will be held in mid March at Hal Ghaxaq.
