Premises' enhancement works - the story so far,,,,
Dear Members, Exiles followers and future Club members .... At a Committee meeting held late last summer 2005, it was unanimously decided to refurbish the summer premises with special attention being directed to, besides other things, the shower-rooms, 'committee' room, certain equipment and other fixed items. During September, Peter Sullivan, Kevin Camilleri and Anton Gambina took the bull by the horns and listed every item required seeing to. All this in preparation for the start of Summer 2006. And with the snack-bar running now under the direct management and responsibility of the Club Committee, it was of paramount importance to upgrade and enhance appropriately. Besides, of course, the time being ripe for such an undertaking.
In the past Kevin and Peter, with the help of other Committee members, always tackled Premises' & equipment issues in ensuring all is ready for the upcoming season. This time, increased focus was called for and thus the KAPP sub-committee was created. And to impart an increased awareness to one and all.
Works which started early in April are now quite advanced. Kevin C. engaged a painter/plasterer, a tiler, an electrician; he is providing several of his on-site building-management skills and, through his professional connections, secured a sponsorship from the local 'Macpherson Paints' company, thanks to Andrew Magri Overend, providing us with free paint for our requirements. On behalf of the Club and its members, the Committee would like to thank 'Macpherson' for their kind gesture. Truly, a real help to the Club's finances. The painting and plastering works have now been successfully nearly-concluded.
Besides ensuring that all locks are serviced or changed by engaging a sort of 'Houdini' guy, Peter S. is presently ensuring that other scores of things are seen to, these includ the 'manufacture' and creation of two waterpolo pitches, sorting out the grease-trap, welding and putting together the Premises' iron barrier surround, etc. etc. Peter is also very conversant with Premises' needs & refurbishment issues.
Naturally, every Committe member is helping out where necessary. Michael Paris will be retrieving all the 'lost' iron from the sea-bed (now a yearly chore). Andrew Paris keeping tabs with JJ Tabone on the imminent snack-bar running and all that it entails (suppliers' offers, sponsorships, ordering equipment, canopies, etc.). Besides other members' contributions. Helping hands are always welcome.
It's "all go" down at the Premises nowadays. All will soon be up and running.
We are pleased to inform all that as a result of the above, we now have newly-tiled, crispy shower-rooms., plastered, fully-painted external and internal walls., newly-painted iron barriers & supports., and much more. We are also aiming for an optimum service, offering a good eating & drinking choice, at the Club snack-bar which will shortly be opening to serve us all.
Unfortunately, we will surpass the budgeted financial amount earmarked for such works, but we are all certain that ultimately every penny spent will be worth it. And always keeping in mind that the Premsies are there for our members to enjoy and make use of regularly during the coming and future summers.
See you soon, down at the Premises, where we eagerly await your custom and support. Enjoy !
Anton Gambina
