A good overall performance by Dorian Pisani’s team was not enough to thwart the might of the San Giljan team when last night, the latter emerged winners 13-7 in a match that the Saints were never in danger but the grittiness shown by the Exiles players partly made amends to their last outing when they were outplayed by Sirens.
Partial scores (3-4) (2-3) (1-3) (1-3).
It was a match in which Exiles attacked with discipline as a series of passes kept the rotation and posession of the ball until the right situation when the final pass to Milos Vukicevic was given or a shot at the San Giljan’s fort. Pisan’s Boys were never caught with counter attacks as the team swam back into defence formation to double on the Saints’ spearheads Borg and Zammit – the latter being deadly with his sharp finishing. Exiles had their chances to close the gap but somehow the precision failed them for San Giljan to open a four-goal lead which proved unassailable, at the end of the third quarter (6-10)
For this match, Dorian Pisani had to shuffle his cards as he had to play without the suspended Sean Gravina but decided to make use of only 10 players as the encounter evolved, leaving three youngsters on the bench unutilized.
The players that took the water were Ian Bugeja, Julian Rizzo Naudi, Simon Vassallo, David Pace Lupi, Daniel Borg Millo, Kurt Griscti (2 goals), Nicky Paris (1 goal), Andrea Bianchi, Milos Vukicevic (3 goals) and Kayne Lanzon.
San Giljan were awarded 3 penalties which were all converted and had 7 man-ups of which 5 were converted and 2 missed. Exiles were 5 times in numerical superiority but converting 2.
The team finished at the bottom of the table pointless and now meet Sirens and Valletta United in the Relegation Pool whilst the top three teams in the Premier Waterpolo League battle for the Championship.
