Exiles 11 Sirens 16
(2-4) (2-3) (3-3) (4-6)
Exiles started the Relegation Pool with another defeat against Sirens when they met last night. The final score does not reflect the supremacy which our team had over the Northerners during the encounter. Despite the number of clear chances which our boys squandered in the first three quarters, they managed to recover from four goals behind (6-10) to close the gap to just one goal (11-12) three minutes from the final horn. That was it, as fatigue crept in and they threw in the towel to concede four goals without replying.
There were the usual lapses throughout the whole match when our opponents scored with incredible ease from 2-1 to 2-4, from 4-4 to 4-7 and from 11-12 to 11-16. In the second minute of the second session Gergely Katonas got his second major foul and no doubt he was conditioned as he had to shadow Csaba Kiss without being too aggressive. In fact Gergely’s third and definite expulsion came about two minutes in the final quarter, but it was at that point that the team surprised one and all when scoring three perfect goals to come within a whisker from drawing level (11-12) before fading away in a total black-out.
The downfall of the team last night was undoubtedly the numerous sitters missed and only half of them were needed for Exiles to win the points. Somehow Mirarchi’s message is not being absorbed by some players in the team; moreover much more is expected from the experienced players who should instill the required confidence in the team to eventually end up bagging the points.
Exiles managed to score 7 out of the 14 expulsions inflicted to our opponents whilst the latter had 9 man-ups and converted 4.
The following players were utilized Ian Bugeja, Julian Rizzo Naudi (3 goals), Simon Vassallo (1 goal), David Pace Lupi, Gergerly Katonas (1 goal), James Spiteri Staines , Kurt Griscti (3 goals), Luka Sekulic (2 goals), Peter Borg (1 goal) and Kayne Lanzon.
The next match for Exiles in the Relegation Pool is scheduled for Saturday the 16th August 2014 at the National Pool at 18.15 hours when Exiles take on Valletta United.
