Neptunes 13 Exiles Jetfreight 8
Partial scores (2-2) (5-3) (1-2) (5-1)
The final score does not reflect the balance between both sets as the match progressed. In fact with 4.46 minutes to the end, only one goal (8-9) separated Exiles from Neptunes shorn of their star Stevie Camilleri who always misses this competition due to his commitment with an Italian side.
Three quick goals by the Reds in the space of two minutes sealed the issue and the three points. Exiles managed to keep up with their opponents throughout the encounter played on Friday 23rd March under wet conditions as the handful of supporters on the stands were pelted with whipping rain. It was the final four minutes that the match took a turn for the worse for Kayne Lanzon’s boys.
Matthew Castillo, Chris von Brockdorff, Andrea Bianchi, Philip Paris, Timmy Sullivan (1 goal), Sean Xerri de Caro (2 goals), Mark Fenech (1 goal), Kurt Griscti, Nicky Paris, Aurelien Cousin (2 goals), Benji Lanzon (2 goals), Luca Felice and Gianni Ciappara (second goalkeeper) were included in the score sheet.
Exiles scored four of their eight man-up situations and converted a penalty. Neptunes converted four of their ten man-ups including a double exclusion when Exiles’ keeper Matthew Castillo was also sent to the cage.
Next match being played on Tuesday 27th March sees Exiles take on Sirens. The venue is as always at the National Swimming Pool Complex at tal-Qroqq with the swim-up at 19.30 hours.
