Sliema 9 Exiles Elia Caterers 12
Partial scores (3-2) (1-1) (2-4) (3-5)
Exiles Ladies’ waterpolo team have won their third league championship on the trot by beating a gallant Sliema side when early this evening both sides met at Sliema pitch.
This win was a team effort which saw the Exiles side trailing at the half-way stage when the Blues were leading by an odd goal (4-3). Stronger swimming, sharper shooting and a solid defence tilted the balance to Gordon Zammit’s girls with a 9-5 partial score in the third and fourth session as the Sliema girls seemed to have reduced their energy but not their fighting spirit. The match was decided in the last seconds of the match when a two goal advantage (10-8) for Exiles in the final quarter shrunk to a slender lead, before two quick goals just before the final horn, sealed the issue for the Greens.
In their final match on Thursday 29th August at 19.30 hours, Exiles host San Giljan before being awarded the League Championship Trophy at the end of the match.
Well done to the whole squad.
