Gordon Zammit’s team failed to win the Knock-Out Final and make it a memorable double when last Saturday the ‘Girls’ lost to Sliema with the odd goal of eleven (5-6). The match was played at the National Pool Sports Complex in front of a sizeable crowd as spectators swarmed to watch the other two finals on the afternoon’s programme.
It was a nail-biting affair with fortunes swaying from one side to another, though the Blues were always in the lead whilst Exiles chased the score for most of the match. Tactically Sliema were a better outfit, fending away their opponents’ attacks. Exiles suffered the pressure on their key players resulting in some of them playing below par.
All told, the Girls had a super season which saw them carry the League Championship for the first time ever. A radical tactical approach in the Final could have tilted the outcome towards the Exiles team.
