Exiles Jetfreight 4 Sirens 11
Partial scores (0-1) (3-1) (1-5) (0-4)
Exiles failed to maintain the pace with a spirited Sirens side to fizzle out in the second part of the match losing the third and fourth sessions 1-9. Both teams met yesterday evening with high expectations for Dorian Pisani’s boys following their commendable outing against Sliema.
After a quiet first session which saw Sirens take the lead with a soft goal conceded thanks to loose marking, the Exiles team reacted strongly in the second quarter with three well-taken long shots which found their opponents’ net to take a two-goal lead before Sirens narrowed the gap to just one goal before the end of the half-time. The third and four sessions were fatal as the team drew a blank with the defence caught napping as the Sirens players shot and scored at ease.
Exiles were too slow in the build-up of their attacks. With a few seconds to spare to pick the right shooter, or pass to Exiles’ centre Nikic who was never served with a decent pass for his lethal finish, the team fumbled most of their attacking power. On the other hand our opponents were quicker in setting into shooting position to pick their best players to pot at their leisure. When the match was wrapped up, Exiles’ Nikic stayed in the opponents’ half but this move hardly changed tack to the encounter’s proceedings.
Exiles’ coach Dorian Pisani made use of these players Matthew Castillo, Julian Rizzo Naudi, Daniel Borg Millo, Michele Stellini (2 goals), Timmy Sullivan (1 goal), Sean Xerri de Caro, Slobodan Nikic, Kurt Griscti, Nicky Paris, Andrea Bianchi (1 goal) Benji Lanzon and Luca Felice.
The next match against bottom-placed Valletta United now becomes crucial for Exiles. The level of concentration must be constant as shown in last night’s second session and not falter as evidenced in the last two sessions of yesterday’s clash which observers at the Pool considered as the worst performance this season.
Swim-up at 18.45 on Wednesday 12th July.
