Exiles lose to San Giljan

San Giljan 10 Exiles Jetfreight 4

(1-1) (2-0) (5-2) (2-1)

Exiles made their debut in this year’s Winter League with a defeat against a much stronger San Giljan outfit when the two sides met earlier this afternoon at the National Swimming Pool Complex.

Up to the half-way stage the two-goal margin which the Saints enjoyed reflected Exiles’ resilience as they defended well to thwart their opponents’ challenge.  Exiles’ keeper Matthew Castillo inspired confidence to his team mates with his saves. In the third session, three quick goals suffered by the Exiles rearguard in the early stages were enough for San Giljan to widen an unassailable lead between the two teams and which was retained to the final horn. Exiles’ Coach Kayne Lanzon who was assisted by Igor Vukanovic, changed tactics by pushing play-maker Cousin in the opponents’ two-metre area but this move proved costly to Exiles as the team missed the Frenchman at the rear to concede avoidable goals.

Scorers for Exiles were Mark Fenech who scored a hat trick all from man-up situations whilst Timmy Sullivan put his name on the score sheet with a close shot.

Next match sees Exiles play Neptunes on Friday 23rd March 2018 at 19.30 hours.
