Last season’s Hungarian Waterpolo champions Ferencvaros, last night won the LEN Champions League when they dethroned outgoing holders Olimpiacos of Greece 14-13 in a pulsating match played in Hanover Germany and which ended 10-10 after four sessions. In the 5-penalty shoot-out, both teams scored three goals each but in the sudden death, Janzik of the Budapest team made amends to his previous mistake to convert, whilst the Greek player Argyropoulos, hit the goalpost and it was over for the ‘Reds’ from Piraeus.
In the winning team, there was a familiar face well known in the Exiles circles – Slobodan Nikic who played two consecutive seasons (2017 and 2018) for the Premier Division Club.
Congratulations to ‘Boban’ as he is well known and to his team for their latest achievement – the Lifting of the ‘Final Eight’ LEN Champions League.
