Exiles pipped Sirens 9-8 in the final seconds of the last quarter to win three precious when on Friday 15th June both teams met at the National Swimming Pool Complex.
Sirens took the lead just half-way in the first session, they extended it to three goals (4-1) in the second session and were in command until the last three minutes of the match. In the final 170 seconds, Exiles squeezed in two goals to level (8-8) before a dramatic finale saw Exiles clinch the winner and the points nine seconds before time up.
Exiles’ rearguard suffered four goals when defending with a man less in the water, a penalty and three quick goals on the counter attack. Sirens failed to score another five man-up situations. As happened in their previous outing against San Giljan, Exiles managed to score seven of their final tally when both teams were playing equal. Two of the four man-ups were converted.
Coach Marco Cuk had the following players at his disposal: Matthew Castillo, Mark Fenech, Andre Bianchi (2 goals), Michele Stellini (2 goals). Timmy Sullivan (1 goal), Sean Xerri de Caro, Slobodan Nikic (2 goals), Kurt Griscti, Nicky Paria, Aurelien Cousin (2 goals), Benji Lanzon, Philip Paris and Gianni Ciappara.
After two matches played within forty eight hours, Exiles have three days to prepare for the next clash next Tuesday 20th June against Valletta United who in their first outing, lost heavily 5-16 to San Giljan – swim-up at 20.00 hours
