Exiles Sports Club in collaboration with the Aquatic Sports Association (ASA) have organized two International Waterpolo Tournaments which were sponsored by Jetfreight Services Ltd who are also the sponsors this season of the Club’s first team which is currently competing in the Premier Waterpolo League organized by the same Association.
The programme of matches was spread over two week-ends between the 9th and 18th July with the bulk of the matches being played at the National Pool in Tal-Qroqq whilst a few games were held at Ta’ Xbiex Waterpolo Club, Ta’ Xbiex.
Eight teams split into two groups of four each of the same age-groups for boys born in 1998 and another set for boys born in 2000. In the latter category. the Malta Selection under the guidance of National Coaches Izzo, Farrugia and Cachia found little difficulty in overcoming the resitance of the two South African Schools teams and the Marcz Waterpolo Camp Team. In the category for the older boys, the Malta team won comfortably against an Exiles and Guests team made up of Dutch youngsters, as well as the Hungarian Waterpolo School, but narrowly beat the English Schools team in a nail-biting finish (9-8) after leading by six goals, one minute into the last quarter (9-3) before a gallant comeback by the English team.
At the end of each tournament medals and trophies were presented to both the the winning teams and the respective runners-up.
Members of the Committee of Exiles Sports Club under the stewardship of their President Andrew Paris, co-ordinated the organization of both tournaments with Officials of the Aquatic Association of Malta (ASA).
The Club Committee would like to thank Jetfreight Servics Ltd for kindly accepting to sponsor these events.
