A familiar face to our Club was on duty as Coach of the Mens’ Under 17 team of Georgia during the European Junior Championships held at the National Swimming Pool Complex hosted by the ASA of Malta between the 10th and the 17th September.
Former top world class Revaz Tchomakidze has now been assigned a new role within the Georgian Swimming Federation, that of Coaching waterpolo with the aim of putting his native country on the international waterpolo map despite the several difficulties that their affiliated teams and players have to face.
At the end of the tournament which acted as a qualifier for next year’s World Junior Championships in Hungary, Revaz’s team failed to qualify having placed 10th position out of sixteen participants, in the overall classification – just one short of the nine slots available for the European nations.
Revaz will be remembered for his spectacular performances during his first visit in 1996 when at the prime of his career (23 years), turned up for Exiles in the top division, scoring 25 out of the total tally of 62 goals. The second visit materialized thirteen years later in 2009 when he helped Exiles win the Second Division Waterpolo Double.
