The Exiles Sports Club first team will again be participating in this years' 2010 ASA Waterpolo League.
The team has participated in the Winter League in February/March of this year, as an opener to the Waterpolo season in Malta. The Exiles team is again in the hands of Coach Joe Caruana Dingli. Joe has engineered a group of, mostly home bred players, into a disciplined team, with a serious and professional outlook. The team has improved its performance year after year under Joe's watchful eye, leadership and coaching. In April the Malta waterpolo team took part in a preliminary international tournament in Istanbul; this tournament was a prelude to the main European Championships to be held later on this year in Croatia. The preliminary tournament in Istanbul saw Malta face formidable countries such as Spain, Turkey and Slovakia. Malta had participated in this preliminary tournament because it had qualified in the European B Tournament held in Lugano, in Spetember last year, 2009. Exiles were honoured to have two of its players chosen with the Malta squad; Alan Borg Cole and Timmy Sullivan; and from the comments we received, the boys did quite well. The team however did not win any of its matches. Back to the Exiles SC first team; some news about a new players; John Paris is back with the team after a long and fruitful waterpolo career. John will bring experiance and knowledge to the young Exiles team and hope that John would have a good season. A further increase to the team is the welcome addition of Kayne Lanzon from San Giljan. A big welcome to Kayne; we hope that he would feel welcome with the Club and with the players, and augur him well for the coming season. A further confirmation is this years' foreign player, in Aurelien Cousin, AUREL for all of the team and the club. Its Aurel's third season with Exiles. Aurel is just completing a very successful season with his club in France, SNS Strasbourg; SNS have inproved their positioning in the French National Waterpolo league, under their coach Seb; from a position of 8th last year, to the 5th place. They are currently participating in the final league play-offs which secure the final placings. Last but not least Aurel will be accompanied by a the second foreign player for Exiles; Florin Bonca currently participating in the Spanish Waterpolo League with one of the Spanish top teams; CN Terrassa. Welcome to Florin and we trust that his stay with the Exiles team will be fruitful and rewarding. (Florin is in the photo on this page)
