Slobodan Nikic who for the second season will be playing for Exiles in the forthcoming Waterpolo Premier League, has just helped his Hungarian Club Ferencvarosi Torna Club (FTC) of Budapest to clinch the national title after his side beat Szolnok 8-7 in the fifth and final match of the play-offs to determine the 2017/2018 champions.
Late last month, FTC were also in the news when they lifted the LEN Euro Cup after beating Italian side 8-5 Banco BPM Sport Management Busto with Slobo scoring one goal in the fourth session – the 6th one to put FTC two goals ahead (6-4). The beaten finalists featured familiar faces Romain Blary, Cristaino Mirarchi (Maurizio’s son), and Coach Marco Baldineti – the latter two will be in Malta this season.
The local waterpolo season starts on Sunday 10th June 2018 with the President’s Cup and the Sportswriters’ Trophy challenges but all eyes will be focusing as from Tuesday 12th June when the first set of Premier and First Division League matches are scheduled. Exiles take on San Giljan in their opener the following day with Boban expected to be one of the main protagonists.
Congrats to Boban on his recent achievements.
