EUROPEAN WATERPOLO CHAMPIONSHIPS QUILIFYERS ROUND 2 (held in MALTA 11-14 July, 2013)

The National Pool will be the venue of  the second round for qualification to the Championship Finals being held in Budapest in 2014. Five countries Georgia, Israel, Belorussia, Ukraine and Malta will take part in a round robin tournament between Thursday the 11th July and Sunday the 14th July.

It’s a long journey

One of the first rounds was held last April when Malta traveled to Odense (Denmark) and finished Runners-up garnering 10 points.The third and  final Qualification Round will be played next November.

The total points gained in each of the three qualification tournaments will determine the top 6 positions from the 17 participating nations in the Qualification Rounds. These six nations will advance to the second round. Each of these six qualified teams will be drawn against one of the six nations that placed 7th to 12th in the last European Championships 2012 held in Eindhoven. The winners of these six encounters that will be played on a home and away basis, will join the top 6 of the 2012 Championships in the Finals in Budapest next year.

Hosts Malta will face Belorussia on the first night at 20.15 hours preceded by another match at 19.00 between Georgia and Israel.

National Coach Karl Izzo has a squad of 15 players at his disposal but needs to trim it by two.  No Exiles players have been called though for the  Odense visit, Peter Borg made  it to the national team and was utilized.

The ten-match tournament should be an attraction to all waterpolo enthusiasts.
