Exiles 4 Valletta United 7

The match, played last Friday 8th April, was somewhat a balanced affair with both teams unable to outswim each other. Exiles started well but missed its first man-up in their first attack. Valleta forged ahead with two quick goals before Andrea Bianchi converted a penalty in Exiles’ favour to end the first session 1-2 for the Citizens. The second session saw our opponents widen the gap by another goal (1-3).  In the third session, Valletta scored three further goals without conceding any to practically seal the issue. In the last quarter Exiles, failed to score their sixth consecutive man-up situation and when Valletta scored their seventh goal (1-7), both sides changed their regular goal-keepers for Exiles to score three quick goals in just over two minutes to make the end result look more respectable.

Whilst the rear-guard has shown signs of compactness, the build-up is slow, resulting in weak and precipitous inaccurate shooting. The dearth of goals from numerical superiority has now become a negative feature of the team and must be seen to boost its morale.

Suspended Dorian Pisani watched proceedings from the terraces with his deputy Matthew Pisani taking over and had at least had the full squad at his disposal.  The players  utilized were Ian Bugeja, Julian Rizzo Naudi, David Pace Lupi, Daniel Borg Millo, Sean Gravina (1 goal), Kurt Griscti, Nicky Paris, Andrea Bianchi (3 goals), Kayne Lanzon and Gianni Ciappara who made his debut with the first team and kept a clean sheet.

The last match in the Play-Offs stage to determine the final classification for the 4th to the 6th position of this year’s Winter League will take place next Friday 15th April 2016 when Exiles take on Sirens. The swim-up is at 19.30 hours.
