Valletta oust Exiles in the Cup-Tie

Exiles 8 Valletta United 9

Partial scores (1-3) (2-2) (2-3) (3-1)

Exiles failed to maintain the progress shown last Sunday when they beat the Citizens 8-7 in their league campaign.  In the quarter final tie played last night they had to bow to their opponents in a close match that seemed lost after Valletta built up a five-goal advantage past the half-way stage of thegame. This was trimmed to one by the final horn to see the Whites progress further in the Premier Knock-Out Competition when they meet San Giljan in the semi-final next month.

The concentration shown in the previous  matches was evidently lacking giving our opponents the chance to find the net in an easier way. The finishing could have been more accurate but again it fell short of expectations. The Boys could have forced extra time in the dying seconds when a time-out was called by Exiles’ bench 12 seconds to go, but an infingement by one of the opponents was waved on and the match was lost.

Scorers for Exiles were Marco Cuk (4 goals) and a goal-a-piece for Romain Blary, James Spiteri Staines Sean Gravina and Kurt Griscti.

Coach Maurizio Mirarchi made use of all the players on the match card including Philip Paris who, after making his debut for a few minutes in the last league game, was utilized in the second part of the encounter.
