Exiles Jetfreight 8 Ta’ Xbiex 0
Partial scores (0-0) (0-0) (5-0) (3-0)
Exiles won their first points in the Enemed Waterpolo Cup 2017/2018 when they disposed of Ta’ Xbiex in their debut to this competition which will serve the National Team players as match practice in view of an international appointment next February.
After a slow start with both teams failing to find the net, Exiles forged ahead against a young side made up players hailing predominately from the Sliema ASC camp and who have teamed up to compete under the Ta’ Xbiex flag.
Exiles’ coach Kayne Lanzon will be at the helm for the next few months until a new coach is appointed closer to the start of the 2018 summer season. He had at his disposal thirteen players including latest two signings, Aurelien Cousin and Mark Fenech whist Philip Paris was making a comeback to the first team.
The scorers for Exiles were Timmy Sullivan (2 goals), Kurt Griscti (1 goal), Aurelien Cousin (3 goals) and Benji Lanzon (2 goals). Both teams were erratic in their man-up situations; Exiles converted just two of the nine occasions whilst our opponents failed to convert any of their seven chances.
Next match sees Exiles meet Neptunes who were narrowly beaten by Sliema (7-8) in their opener. The match will be held on Sunday 17th December at the National Swimming Pool Complex at Tal-Qroqq with the swim-up at 10.15 hours.
