Exiles continued where they had finished in their last outing against Sirens by easing past Valletta United when earlier tonight they disposed of their opponents 9-6 at the National Swimming Pool Complex.
After a shaky start, which saw the Citizens take a two-goal lead (1-3), Exiles reduced the gap to one goal (2-3) before the end of the first quarter. Marshaled by keeper Matthew Castillo, Exiles defended stubbornly to keep a clean sheet for practically 21 minutes before our opponents found the net with the score reading 7-4 for Exiles. Valletta’s danger man Boris Vapenski was well shadowed by the Exiles defenders who alternated the tight marking in the eight-metre area limiting the damage. A positive note also comes from the scorer’s list as six players put their names on the scoresheet.
Exiles had eight man-up situations but only managed two conversions whilst Valletta also forced the same number of exclusions including a double one and converted three of them.
Congratulations to the Dorian Pisani and his team for a commendable display with the protagonists undoubtedly being all the players which the Exiles’ coach made use of during the match, namely Matthew Calleja, Julian Rizzo Naudi, Daniel Borg Millo, Michele Stellini (1 goal), Timmy Sullivan (2 goals), Sean Xerri de Caro ( 1 goal), Slobodan Nikic (2 goals), Kurt Griscti (2 goals), Nicky Paris, Andrea Bianchi (1 goal), And Luca Felice.
In day 4 Exiles take on runaway leaders San Giljan who won their first three clashes to open a three-point lead on Sliema at the six-point mark followed by Sirens and Exiles at four points.
Swim-up at 19.15 hours on Sunday 18th June 2017.
