The two Rounds of the Premier League have now been completed and once the Final Classification has been established, the six Premier Teams have been split into two groups: the first one comprises San Giljan, Neptunes and Sliema who will compete for the Championship although the Blues are out of the running as they lag thirteen and eleven points behind the front runners; the second group made up of Sirens, Exiles and Valletta United will fight it out to avoid the Relegation Play-Off against the winners of the First Division League. Sirens have a comfortable seven point lead over Valletta and ten over Exiles so the tussle is between the latter two clubs to determine the 5th and 6th places.
After losing badly in their last outing against Sirens (8-14), Exiles take on the Northerners tomorrow Saturday the 25th July hoping that they will not repeat the dismal performance when the second quarter partial score (1-6) – the second worst quarter result this season, proved to be the team’s downfall. This match is the first of four matches in which Exiles meet the 4th and 5th placed teams twice to determine the team that will try to avoid the Relegation Play-Offs and possibly the big fall to the First Division next year.
The swim-up is at 18.15 and will be followed by the Sliema-San Giljan clash.
