Exiles no match to San Giljan

San Giljan 17 Exiles Jetfreight 9

Partial scores: (5-1) (4-3) (5-1) (3-4)

Newly crowned champions San Giljan had no difficulty in disposing of a weak Exiles side when last Saturday (19th August) they met in the penultimate match of this year’s Premier Waterpolo League. Dorian Pisani’s team lacked the resilience shown in their previous outings, possibly having played after the Sirens-Valletta encounter the previous night and which saw the former beat the Citizens whose tally at six points, leaves Exiles in the unassailable fifth position in the League Table with 11 points prior to the final clash next Friday 26th August at 19.15 hours.

The partial scores clearly indicate that San Giljan were always in the driving seat. With the match practically decided at the half-way mark as the score read 9-4 in favour of the Saints, both coaches took the opportunity of rotating their teams. San Giljan stretched their lead twice to nine goals (14-5) and (17-8) thanks also to their unstoppable Ivovic who scored nine of his team’s final tally.

For the record, Exiles converted two of their six man-up situations whilst San Giljan were also erratic when in numerical advantage, scoring one of their four opportunities. They did convert the two penalties awarded to them.

Coach Dorian Pisani had at his disposal the following players, Matthew Castillo, Julian Rizzo Naudi, Daniel Borg Millo, Michele Stellini, Timmy Sullivan (2 goals), Sean Xerri de Caro (1 goal), Slobodan Nikic (4 goals), Kurt Griscti (2 goals), Nicky Paris, Luca Felice, Benji Lanzon, Jake Bajada, and Steve Galea Pace.
