Exiles qualify for the Premier after comfortable win

Exiles 22 Otters 6

(6-4) ( 6-0) (6-0) (4-2)

Exiles won the three points at stake against Gozitan side Otters to book the last place for this year’s BOV Summer Premier Waterpolo League.

After a shaky start in which both teams found the net with a certain amount of ease, Exiles took control of proceedings and ran away with their opponents during the second and third quarters by scoring on twelve occasions without conceding any goal. In the last quarter, with the match wrapped up, the team was rather sloppy in some of its finishing but still managed to win the session.

Exiles initially played press but switched to a zone defence with most of the goals  concluded by fast breaks which caught our opponents napping. Gergely Katonas blocked out of the game completely Otters’ main spearhead Ivan Vuksanovic who scored just one goal from a penalty. Otherwise it was good show by the boys  with some strong swimming and accurate shooting as the final score indicates.

All players on the match card including second goalkeeper Steve Galea Pace were utilized by Italian Coach Maurizio Mirarchi who put his mind at rest at the qualification for the Premier League with five other Clubs. The team suffered seven expulsions of which only one was converted and a penalty. There were seven man-up situations of which three chances were concluded and four lost.

Ian Bugeja, Julian Rizzo Naudi (1 goal), Simon Vassallo (2 goals), David Pace Lupi (2 goals), Gergerly Katonas ( 2 goals), James Spiteri Staines (1 goal), Kurt Griscti (3 goals), Luka Sekulic (4 goals), Peter Borg (4 goals), Benji Lanzon (2 goals) and Kayne Lanzon (1 goal).

In the first Premier League match on Saturday the 28th June at 18.45 hours, Exiles meet the winner of Section A which will be determined in tonight’s clash between Sliema and current champions Neptunes.
