San Giljan 7 Exiles 4
(4-2) (0-0) (1-1) (2-1)
This was definitely Exiles’ best match so far in this year’s Winter League. It was a flowing match characterized by incessant swimming by both contestants. Exiles played cautious in defence marking double on San Giljan’s main spearhead Matthew Zammit and to a certain extent managed to limit the damage by taking the risk of allowing the rest of their opponents to pot the final shot. Expulsions were few with six for Exiles and seven counted for the Saints. In the third Session our boys failed to benefit from a weaker formation put in by Coach Sergio Afric who gave a four-minute breather to the regulars. The match proved to be exciting and was decided three minutes from the final horn. Overall Exiles can consider themselves satisfied with their performance. The match was indeed balanced and our boys had their chances to equalize but did not succeed maybe due to situations in the final part of the game when the team lacked a strong player in the opponents’ hole to defend this position.
David Pace Lupi scored twice whilst Kurt Griscti and Kayne Lanzon put their names on the scorers’ list.
Coach Aurelien Cousin made use of the following players Ian Bugeja, Julian Rizzo Naudi, Simon Vassallo, David Pace Lupi, Philip Paris, Nicky Portelli, James Spiteri Staines, Kurt Griscti, Michael Paris, Peter Borg, Benji Lanzon and Kayne Lanzon.
Our next fixture is on Monday the 31st March at 09.45 hours when at the National Pool, Exiles take on Valletta United.
