Sliema 13 Exiles 11
(partial scores (4-2) (5-6)(2-3) (2-0)
Last night Exiles proved that they are no push-overs. Their gritty approach against Sliema showed that they can give a good run to all the Premier Clubs. One must admit that Exiles met an injury-ridden Blues side but cannot demerit a well-executed display by the whole team which brought applause from the numerous neutrals attending at the National Pool. With the match in balance 2.5 minutes to the final horn (11-11), it was any team that could have won the three points.
The were some controversial decisions but that is very typical in waterpolo. Also the inclusion of Gabarretta in the Sliema line-up raised eye-brows as he was meant to skip yesterday’s match after receiving marching orders in the previous clash with San Giljan for brutality but was subsequently reprieved in an apppeal made by his Club with no form of communication issued by the ASA.
Dorian Pisani’s boys recovered from the shocking performance earlier this week and yesterday’s game boosted their morale for the rest of the matches lined up. The confidence was regained and the team spirit strengthened.
The following players were utilized- Ian Bugeja, Julian Rizzo Naudi, Simon Vassallo, David Pace Lupi, Sean Gravina (3 goals), Kurt Griscti (1 goal), Nicky Paris, Andrea Bianchi (3 goals), Milos Vukicevic (4 goals), and Kayne Lanzon.
Man Ups: 11 for Sliema 9 converted 2 missed; 5 for Exiles 2 converted and 3 missed. One penalty awarded and converted for Exiles
Next match sees Exiles meet Sirens on Saturday 23rd July at 18.00 hours.
