Valletta United 6 Exiles 5
(3-0)(1-1)(2-3)(0-1)
A marked improvement from the previous three outings was evident, although Valletta at the outset went three goals ahead in the first session without a reply from our boys.
Coach Matthew Pisani kept the pressure on the team and is to be commended for the rotation of the players at his disposal and which saw the return of James Spiteri Staines after a three-month absence from the Island.
As the match progressed, Exiles improved their tactics to narrow the gap between the two sides with our opponents slowing their tempo resulting in their erratic finishing. It was an exciting finale as the boys desperately pushed for what would have been a merited equalizer but frittered the chances especially in the dying seconds when they found themselves in numerical advantage, due to lack of experience and fast thinking to see Valletta cling to their slender lead and win the three points.
Coach Matthew Pisani made use of the following players: Steve Galea Pace, Julian Rizzo Naudi, Simon Vassallo, David Pace Lupi, Michael Paris, James Spiteri Staines, Sean Gravina (2 goals), Kurt Griscti (1 goal), David Abela, Andrea Bianchi, Philip Paris, Luca Peric and Kayne Lanzon (2 goals).
No time to think about this match as the final one in the first round series beckons tomorrow morning Tuesday 31st March 2015 at 09.00 hours at the National Pool when Exiles take on Sirens.
