Partial scores (4-0) (2-4) (6-4) (6-4)

Exiles suffered their second consecutive defeat in the waterpolo Premier League when on Saturday the 6th July, they lost 12-18 against Sirens.

Exiles had a bad start ending 0-4 down at the end of the first session. In the second quarter, Igor Vukanovic’s team recovered partially but still ended two goals down the half-way mark, trailing 4- 6. This tw0-goal disadvantage lasted until 120 seconds from the end of the third quarter when at 10-12 Exiles had a crucial man-up to narrow the gap to just a slender goal but missed their chance. In the last 40 seconds Sirens found the net twice to increase their lead back to four (12-8). In the last session Sirens not only controlled their opponents but extended their lead to six (18-12) at the final horn.

Exiles’ poor finishing in the first quarter allowed the Northerners to build an initial advantage which kept Exiles trailing. Exiles faced a solid zone and was punctured by counter attacks.

Man-Up: Exiles 1 on 4 and two penalties converted whilst Sirens scored 3 on 6 and converted one penalty.

Igor Vukanovic who had Michele Stellini injured for this match, made use of the following players Matthew Castillo, Andrew Magri, Marco Jelaka (5 goals), Timmy Sullivan (1 goal), Sean Xerri de Caro, Mark Fenech, Kurt Griscti, Milos Vukicevic (5 goals), Aurelien Cousin (1 goal), Nicky Paris, Philip Paris, Simon Apap, Christian von Brockdorff and second goalkeeper Max Martin.

The last and final match of the ‘cross over’ series will be played on Tuesday 16th July at 19.30 when Exiles take on Marsaxlokk who pipped Valletta United in the Preliminary Round to book the six slot to qualify for the Premier League.
