Exiles to meet Neptunes in opener

Exiles were pitted against reigning summer champions Neptunes in their first match of this year’s BOV Waterpolo Premier Winter League when the draws were made on Wednesday 22nd February at the ASA Headquarters at the National Pool Complex at tal-Qroqq.

Friday 31st March at 10.45 sees Dorian Pisani’s team taking on Neptunes in a six-team competition which will comprise last year’s winter champions San Giljan, Sirens, Sliema and Valletta.  The inaugural match will be followed by a clash against Sirens on Tuesday 4th April at 19.45. On Saturday the 8th April Exiles will meet Valletta at 16.45 hours. The last two matches of the first round are versus San Giljan on Tuesday 11th April and against Sliema on the 18th April at 18.30. Fo all participating teams, it will be a hectic programme of six matches in 20 days taking into account another non-competitive match for each team against the ASA Under 17 team which is preparing for its next international participation. The winner of this year’s winter league will be crowned on Saturday 29th April in a three-match programme which sees the first placed team meeting the runner-up in the first round. The third and fourth placed teams take on each other to determine the third and fourth slot whilst the fifth and sixth teams battle each other to avoid the bottom place.

Following the radical changes seen in the first team, the expectations in the Exiles camp for the new-look outfit against stiffer opponents are high. The activity at the National Pool will intensify in the next five weeks as all clubs undergo their prepartion phase for the Summer Waterpolo League.
