Nervous Exiles slip again

Exiles 5 Sirens 11

Partial scores (1-0) (1-4) (1-4) (2-3)

Exiles failed in their bid to stop Sirens when last Saturday, they lost to a slicker Notherners’ side which cashed on flagrant mistakes made in the build-up of  most of the Boys’ attacks. The first session found Exiles straightaway on a good tempo but did not capitalize on their opponents’ slow start to end 1-0 up. In the second session, Sirens scored four goals in a row before Exiles replied with a counter attack from a man-down situation to end the first half of the encounter 2-4.

In the third session, there was an instance when Romain Blary was tackled by three Sirens defenders but still managed to get the ball at the back of the net.The official deemed to throw one of the Sirens players out when it seemed either a penalty or awarding Romain the advantage. This incident could have had a negative effect on the Exiles players as from then on they lost their poise. Sirens went to win the session 4-1  with three consecutive man-up conversions and the match was over. The third and fourth sessions were also characterized by inaccurate passing on the part of Exiles and which deprived the team those precious goals needed to keep in touch with their opponents in the hope of getting back into the match and win points.

Exiles suffered 10 expulsions and a penalty with Sirens scoring five goals and converting from the 5-metres, whilst they missed all their four man-ups as well as a penalty awarded in the final session. There was also a simultaneous exclusion.

Maurizio Mirarchi  Exiles Coach, made use of eleven players – Ian Bugeja, Julian Rizzo Naudi, Simon Vassallo, David Pace Lupi, Romain Blary (1 goal), James Spiteri Staines, Sean Gravina, Kurt Griscti, Andrea Bianchi (1 goal), Marco Cuk (3 goals), and Kayne Lanzon. Steve  Galea Pace and Luca Peric were not utilized.

The second match being played  by Exiles in the Relegation Pool will be at the National Swimming Pool, Tal- Qroqq next Wednesday 29th July 2015, against Valletta United.

Swim-up at 18.15 hours
