Sirens 12 Exiles Jetfreight 2
Partial Scores (0-1) (6-0) (3-1) (3-0)
Exiles finished at the bottom of the table in this year’s Premier Waterpolo Winter League when earlier this morning, they were soundly beaten by a sharper Sirens side. Pisani’s team was unrecognizable from its previous outings. Their resistance lasted one session before throwing in the towel in the second session. Finishing was poor with the shots being easy prey for our opponents’ keeper who kept the Exiles team at bay with ordinary saves. We witnessed yet another match with all the nine man-ups in Exiles’ favour squandered as was a penalty awarded in the first session when the team was leading by a single goal. With the exception of Andrea Bianchi, Dorian Pisani made use of all the players on the bench hoping that the changes solve the team’s problems without any success.
The team has got to forget this match and in the next weeks of preparation for the Summer Premier League, they need to sharpen their shooting and improve their success rate of the man-up situations created. They should build on the positive displays against stronger outfits in this competition which came to an end earlier this afternoon with San Giljan lifting the trophy after edging Sliema 8-6 to retain the title won last year.
Coach Pisani had the following players at his disposal – Matthew Castillo , Julian Rizzo Naudi (1 goal), Jake Bajada, Michele Stellini (1 goal), Timmy Sullivan, Sean Xerri de Caro, Daniel Borg Millo, Kurt Griscti , Nicky Paris, Andrea Bianchi, Andrew Magri, Luca Felice and Steve Galea Pace.
The only sparkle in this morning’s dismal display was the award before the top two clash between San Giljan and Sliema, to Exiles’ player Elena Borg who was awarded the Lady Waterpolo Player of the Year for 2016.
