Poor start proves costly as Exiles bow to current champions

Exiles Ferretti 6 Neptunes Emirates 11

(1-5) (1-4) (1-0) (4-2)

Exiles had to bow to a stronger Neptunes outfit earlier tonight when the Balluta boys emerged easy winners having sealed the issue after two quarters. Our boys went into the lead from a well-executed man-up situation but faded away and paid dearly for costly mistakes as the team failed to settle down quickly in the match giving away goals which  could have been avoided. There was never any doubt as to where the three points were going but  more concentration  on the part of the Exiles team would have  avoided most of the goals conceded in the first two sessions of the match.

Of consolation was the fact that once the match was decided, the players were less tense in the second part of the game with the level of play improving  especially in the defence to win the third and fourth sessions.  Exiles’ goalkeeper Ian Bugeja  (photo) was inspirational to his team mates suffering just two goals from the more-quoted opponents.

It was a weak start for Exiles as Neptunes piled nine goals in a row without a reply. The break after two sessions proved beneficial as French Coach Aurelien Cousin asked the team for more cohesion. This was evident as the rotations made in the team sparked a generous reaction by the boys for a respectable final scoreline.

Aurelien Cousin made use of eleven players for this match: Ian Bugeja, Julian Rizzo Naudi, Simon Vassallo, David Pace Lupi , Romain Blary, Nicky Portelli, James Spiteri Staines, Vojislav Cupic, Kurt Griscti,  Peter Borg and Kayne Lanzon.

Scorers for Exiles were Cupic 2, Pace Lupi, Portelli, Spiteri Staines and Lanzon 1 goal each.

Next fixture is for Next Friday the 14th June at 19.15 hours against Sliema
