Second defeat for Exiles

Valletta United 9 Exiles Jetfreight 6

Partial scores (2-2) (2-1) (3-1) (2-2)

Exiles did not rise to the occasion in their third outing in this year’s Winter Waterpolo League, ending again on the losing side against Valletta United when both teams met yesterday late afternoon at the National Pool Sports Complex.

A  balanced first half of the encounter, saw Exiles forge ahead 3-2 before a comeback by the Citizens saw the score read 4-3 in their favour at the end of the half-way mark. At the the third session, Valletta opened a three-goal (7-4) as Exiles failed to find the net for practically the whole session. The Boys rallied to close the gap to one goal (7-6)  in the fourth but fumbled four of the five man-ups in the final session for Valletta to score another brace to restore the three-goal lead and keep in front until the final whistle.

Exiles converted three out of the man-ups whilst Valletta netted once out of seven. Coach Dorian Pisani was not too pleased with the defending part of the match as its rearguard was not reassuring as in the first two outings.

Coach Pisani had the following players at his disposal – Matthew Castillo, Julian Rizzo Naudi, Jake Bajada, Michele Stellini, Timmy Sullivan (2 goals), Sean Xerri de Caro (1 goal), Daniel Borg Millo, Kurt Griscti (1 goal), Nicky Paris (1 goal), Andrea Bianchi (1 goal), Chris von Brockdorff, Luca Felice and Steve Galea Pace.

Next match is being played on Tuesday 11th April, when Exiles have an arduous task when they meet San Giljan who have three straight wins and are undoubtedly hot favourites to end up at the top place before the play-offs to determine this year’s Winter Champions.

Swim up at 18.30 hours.

In the meantime, this morning Exiles played the ASA Under 17 National Team in an out-of-competition encounter with no official score being kept of the match which waswas played in the diving pool. The end-score showed the superiority of our team against their younger counterparts.
