Exiles’ disappointing season comes to an end

Sirens 17 Exiles Elia Caterers 13

Partial scores (5-4) (4-2) (7-2) (1-5)

Exiles finished their season’s commitments with a poor display against Sirens when both sides met last night at the National Swimming Pool Complex in the Premier Division Play-Off – Match two. Having placed ahead of Exiles in the League table after two rounds, Sirens started one match up and needed one win to qualify for the ‘Final Four’ series

Igor Vukanovic’s team kept the pace with their opponents until half-way through the second session when the Northerners opened a four-goal lead (9-5) before Exiles reduced the gap to three (6-9), at the midway stage. Exiles’ resistance lasted four minutes into the third quarter (8-11) before conceding five goals to end the quarter, eight goals down (8-16) before the start of the final session. A flurry of five goals in the last session by Exiles against one conceded made the end result more respectable.

Man-Up Exiles converted 3 on 8 and missed a penalty. Sirens scored 1 on 7 but scored 3 of the 4 penalties awarded.

Exiles’ coach Igor Vukanovic made use of the following players Matthew Castillo,  Michele Stellini, Marco Jelaka (3 goals), Timmy Sullivan (3 goals), Sean Xerri de Caro, Mark Fenech, Kurt Griscti, Milos Vukicevic (3 goals), Aurelien Cousin (2 goals), Nicky Paris (1 goal) and Philip Paris (1 goal).
