Exiles Jetfreight 5 Sirens 7
Partial scores (1-3) (2-2) (2-1) (0-1)
The Northerners had the better of Exiles when tonight both sides met at the National Swimming Pool Complex.
It was a hard-fought match in which Sirens started on a high gear to take a three-goal lead (4-1) in the second minute of the second quarter before Exiles recovered strongly to reduce the margin to an odd goal (5-6) seconds before the end of the third session.
The last quarter was a tussle by both sides as Exiles tried to get a merited equalizer but the Northerners held their fort and even managed to squeeze in another goal 57 seconds to the final horn. A time-out call with 3 minutes from the end with a Sirens player excluded could have earned Exile’s Coach Kayne Lanzon a deserved point but as the team was set in attack, he opted not to.
Exiles were very erratic in their man-ups, missing all five opportunities apart from a penalty in the last 30 seconds of the match. Sirens converted their first man-up but fumbled the other three occasions and two penalty throws which were saved by Exiles’ keeper Matthew Castillo who was an inspiration to the rest of his side.
Matthew Castillo, Andrea Bianchi (1 goal), Philip Paris, Timmy Sullivan (2 goals), Sean Xerri de Caro, Mark Fenech, Kurt Griscti (1 goal), Nicky Paris, Aurelien Cousin (1 goal), Benji Lanzon and Luca Felice took the water.
Next match for Exiles will be played on Wednesday 4th April when they meet Valletta United. The venue is the National Swimming Pool Complex at tal-Qroqq with the swim-up at 18.45 hours.
