On duty with the French National Waterpolo Team is international Romain Blary who played for Exiles in 2008 when the Club won the Second Division Double and last season when he played a few matches during a four-week stay in the first part of the summer league campaign.
In this morning’s encounter played in front of a sizeable crowd at the National Pool, France outclassed the Maltese squad 20-6 but one has to take into account that whilst the European Leagues are in full swing, the local players are in their very initial phase of their preparation for the forthcoming summer campaign and the participation in this two-leg encounter with the French National side came as a pleasant eleventh-hour surprise to the ASA after Malta took Macedonia’s place following a suspension inflicted by the European Governing Body (LEN) to the latter country.
Romain was indeed a protagonist with his incessant swimming, strict marking and strong legwork which were evident throughout today’s encounter and helped himself to a hat-trick.
It is indeed a pity that Exiles will not be able to make use of Romain next summer as he is expected to form part of the French National team at the European Waterpolo Championships in Budapest next July.
Bienvenu a Malte Romain et a la prochaine.
