Next week-end, sees the start of another competitive season for all affiliated Clubs to the Aquatic Sports Association (ASA) when the first two matches will inaugurate the Winter League . Exiles will be meeting current champions Neptunes at 20.00 on Friday the 20th February whilst the curtain raiser will be played between Ta’ Xbiex and Otters.
This year’s competition attracted not less than ten teams which have been split into two groups with ASA Under 19 Selection,Exiles, Neptunes, San Giljan, Sirens, Sliema and Valletta pitted in the Premier League whilst Marsascala, Marsaxlokk, Otters and Ta’ Xbiex will compete in the First Division.
The progamme is fragmented in view of the National Waterpolo team’s commitments in the international arena. After next week-end’s first set of matches, the Premier league will resume on the 19th March – just after Malta’s return international match against France at the National Pool having lost 8-20 in the first leg played in Montpellier on the 15th February. There is another month’s break in April to allow the national team take part in an international tournament and when the league continues on the 2nd May, it will be the last leg of a round robin campaign for the Premier whilst the four teams in the First Division meet twice to determine the winner.
Exiles will be meeting Sliema on the 19th March, San Giljan on the 22nd March, Valletta on the 31st March and will end its commitments against Sirens on the 3rd May. We will be providing results and comments on all matches played by Exiles. In the meantime, Senior Coach Aurelien Cousin is preparing the team for this league and will definitely utilize this competition as a build-up for the more important annual appointment in the summer months. Besides welcoming back a few youngsters who had stints with other clubs last summer, Aurelien Cousin will be able to make use of new-comer Benji Lanzon who is on loan from Neptunes.
